Sneak Peek and Photographs
Coming next Monday, March 26th
Blue Poppy
When Clemens and I photographed these gorgeous rare blue Himilayan poppies (hmm, yes, some of them are shades of magenta as well as blue in their natural colors), I just knew I had to feature them in a kit. I had been looking for something special in blue flowers for quite some time and had never found the right combination. The second I downloaded the photos into the computer, I knew I had found what I was looking for. I started extracting and designing immediately and had so much fun. Some kits just flow and this was one of them.
My assignment last week for my Beyond Layers class was working with black and white, specifically converting color photos to black and white. On both of the photos above, I did a lot of tweaking to get the shades of grey, black and white exactly where I wanted them. I used blending modes, including blending modes on just parts of the photos, various levels and adjustments as well as applying texture.
I've always loved black and white photos and I realized as I did this assignment how much I loved working with some of my existing images to convert them. Not sure why I never did this before. Certainly I've converted them to sepia to give them an antique look but never did true black and white.
The top photo is one I took looking through an old conservatory window on a rainy winter day. I love the condensation on the window and the blurred effect it gives the landscape outside.
The second image is an entry way light in an old mid 1800's house.
And just a reminder that I'm giving away a lovely kit to those people who like my new StarSongStudio Facebook page. To get this free kit with 7 full size, 12" x 12" papers and 28 elements, just click like when you get to my page and then click on the image of the kit that appears.

- I'm a scrapbook addict. I've been involved with digital scrapabooking since July 2009, when my daughter introduced me to her favorite hobby. When I'm not scrapbooking (hmm, when exactly is that?), I'm enjoying life with my family including my two daughters and two grandsons, my husband Clemens and my Cavalier Spaniel, Vinnie. My hobbies include photography, reading, biking, and hiking.

Ann, the black and white photos are fabulous. Know you will come with a way to use these in an up-coming kit or kits. The misty view out the window is terrific. Those photos make me want to take my camera out to see what can be captured. Thanks for the inspiration. The beautiful "Time for Tea" kit and the soon to be released "Blue Poppy" kit are two more in your long line of fabulous works.
